Castelfranco Veneto / 1983
Giulio Favotto is a photographer and visual researcher. After a background spanning classical studies and mathematical-computer science, he continues with studies related to imagery. With a continuous formal exploration of analog, digital, and 3D techniques, he views the image as a tool for dialogue and engages in projects that combine aesthetics, introspection, and social commitment.
In 2010, he co-founded otium, a communication studio that integrates photography and graphics in commercial-cultural projects, taking on the artistic direction and overseeing the photographic direction.
Since 2014, he has curated the imagery within the theatrical productions of ANAGOOR, a contemporary theater company directed by Simone Derai and Marco Menegoni, awarded the Silver Lion at the 2018 Theatre Biennale. The visual research is an important part of ANAGOOR’s poetics, with images (whether still, in motion, or 3D) actively participating in the scene. Sometimes, they serve as a documentary backdrop to the real world invading the theater, and at other times as a reflection of subjects present onstage at different times. Our cultural and social identity, the dialogue with other cultures, and the exploitation of the animal world are subjects of a long visual research, often of a documentary nature, that integrates into the theatrical dramaturgy. The experiences in India and Iran mark two very significant moments.
In 2016, he collaborated with ANAGOOR’s company on the production of **GO.GO.GO**, a theatrical work by Aleksandr Sokurov.
Since 2012, he has created awareness campaigns and photographic research with organizations sensitive to animal welfare; among these initiatives, in 2017-2018, he exhibited the project **CARNE da MACELLO**, a metaphor on hospitality, as photographic installations at a butcher shop and an old slaughterhouse.
He collaborates with Mombao, an electro-punk music duo, since 2021, shaping images, music videos, vinyls design. Mombao was a key project for photogrammetry researches.
In 2023-2024, he has collaborated with WOVO, an organization focused on well-being and sexual education, managing its communication and photography and experimenting the use of LiDAR generated images to created privacy-safe images of explicit situations.
In 2024, he publishes PATERNITY RATIO, his first photographic book on the paternal role, together with YOGURT EDITIONS, curated by Francesco Rombaldi.
